The focus of this presentation will be helping attendees sharpen their basic and clinical skills as well as develop a therapeutic style. A therapeutic style is an integration of the counselors background, culture, lived experiences, and education. The concepts and topics of this presentation will be inspired by the presenters’ new book published by the American Counseling Association. In the presentation we will blend existing literature with our clinical experiences to facilitate a didactic dialogue focused on areas such as: preparing for counseling, developing the therapeutic relationship, managing the therapeutic process, developing a theoretical orientation, multicultural issues in counseling, doing distance counseling, and getting the most out of supervision. $35 1.5 NBCC CE Hours Learning Objectives: Understand the interplay between the art and science of practicing counseling Learn how to manage and trust the therapeutic process Identify 5-10 ways to develop your therapeutic style. Presenters: Drs. Jude & Julius Austin have doctoral degrees in Counselor Education & Supervision. Dr. Jude Austin is an LPC-S and LMFT and Dr. Julius Austin is also an LPC and NCC. Dr. Jude Austin is a professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and serves as the program’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Track Coordinator. Dr. Julius Austin is a professor at Grand Canyon University. They have co-authored a number of counseling books.
